Exhibiting Gallery: Simbart Projects

Since 2018, Simbart Projects has supported over twenty independent artists showcasing seventeen solo exhibitions. Located in historical, bohemian neighbourhood Çukurcuma in Istanbul, Simbart Projects has already been a key figure in the Turkish contemporary art market by its carefully curated programme of pioneering artists who have become significant names in the region. Due to its unique and fresh vision, Simbart Projects continue to work with distinguished artists with contemporary direction.

Simbart Projects will be presenting artist İrem Nalça ( b.1988, İstanbul). After studying at Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Sculpture Department Nalça continued her education at Florence Fine Arts Academy and School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has since returned to Istanbul. Nalça’s practice uses the traditional shadow theatre method that turns the maker into a participant/protagonist. In traditional Karagöz theatre, which has a queer narrative style, Karagöz is positioned as the archetype of a Trickster. Nalça works around this archetype by creating sculptures using felt as stationary orbits that carry possible narratives.
