Ju Young Lee had 3 solo exhibitions since 2009 and had participated in many group exhibitions not only in Korea but also in Italy and in China. She continues to find out how to re-interpretate Korean traditional material and motif to make contemporary and up-to-date art pieces.

This series is her new presentation which she created letters by pressing and pushing soil with her hands just like brush strokes. The artist paid attention to the beauty of Hangeul (Korean alphabet)’s shape which is a daily object as well as a geometric design motif. She said that during the preparation, she thought a lot of her mother who had done artistic activities together during her childhood and who made her to dream becoming a sculptor. That’s why she gave the title “Mother” to this series.
